A su llegada a América, los conquistadores españoles se encontraron con culturas de un avanzado nivel de desarrollo, que habían alcanzado logros culturales notables. Entre ellas destacan los mayas, quienes a partir de rigurosas observaciones astronómicas elaboraron un complejo calendario. Este interesante y entretenido libro propone que este calendario es mucho más que una acabada descripción del movimiento de los cuerpos de la esfera celeste. En efecto, el autor sostiene que el calendario maya representa, en realidad, un mapa de carácter metafísico que traza el camino de la evolución de la conciencia humana, desde los más elementales determinismos del ámbito material hasta el advenimiento de la iluminación. Además, el libro reflexiona sobre el origen común de las distintas religiones y describe cómo en esta época está ocurriendo una transición fundamental hacia un estadio superior de conciencia.

Author Biography

Carl Johan Calleman holds a Ph.D. in physical biology and has served as an expert on cancer for the World Health Organization. He began his studies on the Mayan calendar in 1979 and now lectures throughout the world. He is also author of Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our Time: The Mayan Calendar. He lives in Sweden.

Carl Johan Calleman es doctor en filosofía (Ph.D.) en biología física y ha servido como experto de cancer para la Organi-zacón Mundial de la Salud (World Health Organization). Comenzó sus estudios sobre el calendario Maya en 1979 y en el presente se dedica a dar conferencias por todo el mundo. También es autor de Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our Time: The Mayan Calendar. El vive en Suecia.
