The Internet, with its corresponding technologies that enable online interaction and access to a variety of content, can be a perilous place for minors between the ages of eight and eighteen, Parents and teachers are often ill-equipped to deal with the variety of devices and applications-such as e-mail, instant messaging, web browsers, blogs, cell phones, and personal digital assistant devices (PDAs)-that can facilitate childrens access to the dangers lurking online. This book explains the risk of the Internet by detailing recent, real-world tragedies and revealing some of the secrets of online activities. It also offers a pragmatic approach to help parents and teachers protect children against the threats of going online.

Author Biography

Gregory S. Smith is vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of information technology at the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, D.C., and adjunct professor in the School of Professional Studies in Business and Education Graduate Programs at John Hopkins University. He is an expert in the field of information technology with several technical articles and public speaking engagements to his credit. He is the author of Straight to the Top: Becoming in World Class CIO.
